  Group Consultation/Supervision

 WHO BENEFITS?

Group Clinical Supervision and/or Consultation is for pre-licensed and licensed professionals alike. It is a place to find support, share experience, develop networks, learn in community, and gain new perspectives. Group Clinical Supervision and Consultation at Noeticus can be useful for things like:
  • Developing a business plan
  • Learning marketing and billing
  • Pursuing new career options
  • Clarifying diagnostic questions
  • Addressing counter-transference
In general, everyone benefits from regular, ongoing supervision and/or consultation. Clients, therapists, and the public at large all are less likely to experience problems when there is good supervision or consultation available. Therapists who are grieved the most tend to be those who are very new to the profession and who often lack the necessary experience to make sound clinical judgments, and those who have been in the profession for a long time, but who are practicing alone and in isolation without any type of feedback.

WHAT IS GROUP CLINICAL SUPERVISION OR CONSULTATION?

Group Clinical Supervision is often used as an adjunct to individual or triadic supervision, but it is a form of supervision none-the-less. This means that supervisor is directly responsible for the actions and choices of the supervisee and the supervisee works under the license of the supervisor. All hours accrued for licensure in Colorado must be completed with a clinical supervisor and not with a clinical consultant.

Group Clinical Consultation, by contrast, is an auxiliary type of professional relationship where the primary clinical work of the group consultee is under the direct, ongoing, and careful supervision of an outside clinical supervisor.

In either case, the focus of the group supervision or consultation experience is to provide additional support, direction, and feedback within the context of the group. All group participants are highly encouraged to have individual supervision or consultation as necessary for their level of practice and intensity of caseload.

Participants in groups at Noeticus can choose, in collaboration with the group supervisor or consultant, between group supervision or group consultation. Together they will determine which level of oversight is most appropriate for the needs and goals of the group participant. B
ecause it is impossible to provide direct, ongoing, and careful attention to a participant's caseload in group supervision meetings alone, any unlicensed participants who wish to use group hours for licensure must also have an individual clinical supervisor

All of the hours completed as group clinical supervision with the supervisor can be counted toward licensing and/or other credentialing as allowed by each particular evaluation board (typically 30 hours can be counted toward licensure).

GENERAL CLINICAL SUPERVISION AND CONSULTATION GROUP THEMES

In all of the groups, we will be able to address the full range of presenting issues that clients bring to the therapeutic relationship, ranging from clients who are well-regulated and interested in exploring existential meaning through creative process work to clients who are quite dysregulated and needing significant therapeutic support and clinical structure.

In particular, we will be exploring themes such as understanding the biopsychosocial phenomenon of mental health/illness, working with resistance/ambivalence, addressing attachment themes, identifying defense/coping strategies, utilizing the skills of challenge and nurturance, unraveling personality disorganization issues (Axis II), implementing levels of care, integrating somatic countertransference dynamics, and much more.

This supervision/consultation groups are especially geared toward therapists who align with one or more of the following characteristics:

  • Therapists working from an experiential perspective
  • Therapists working with Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT)
  • Therapists working from a somatic or body-oriented perspective
  • Therapists interested in deepening their understanding of working with trauma
  • Therapists who are seasoned and interested in integrating and deepening an already well-formed theoretical orientation
  • Therapists who are newly graduated and interested in attending to both the logistical as well as the clinical aspects of private practice
  • Therapists interested in clarifying and differentially diagnosing psychological problems (using the DSM and/or myriad other assessment tools)

In addition, all Clinical Supervision and Consultation Groups are designed to invite and address the basic elements of the Noeticus Clinical Training Triangle, which are:

  • Developing Administrative Effectiveness
  • Enhancing Theoretical Knowledge and Increasing Clinical Capacity
  • Supporting Ongoing Professional Identity Formation
  • Cultivating the Self of the Therapist in Community
